Until the FDA establishes clear guidelines on the labeling of açai products, if you want to know how many açai fruit solids (i.e. açai nutrients) a beverage contains, you will have to do a little homework. The first thing you can do is to look at the beverage's viscosity. The thicker it is, the more açai fruit solids it probably contains. However, a beverage's thickness can also be increased by adding thickening agents, so, in the presence of the likes of guar gum or xanthan gum, high viscosity is not reliable evidence of high pulp content.
Luckily, there is a better way of getting a good idea of a beverage’s açai solids content, namely, by looking at its nutrition facts. As explained in Açai Grades, the minimum solids content for low grade açai in Brazil is 8%. So, in every 100g (3.5oz) of açai there will be at least 8g of fruit solids. Given the fruit’s solids’ composition – approximately 1/8 protein, 1/4 fiber and 1/2 fat (mainly heart-healthy fatty acids) - 8g of açai solids consist of 1g of protein, 2g of fiber and 4g of fat. As you can see in the Nutrition Facts table on the right, Wonderfruit Açai® Real Pure contains considerably more nutrients than this minimum level (about 50% more).
Compare this with your favorite beverage. But be careful with the math! 1-2-4g of protein-fiber-fats is the content in 100g (3.5oz) of açai, so in your typical 300g (10.5oz) beverage you should find at least 3g protein, 6g fiber and 12g fat for it to be nutritionally comparable to lower grade açai. And if there is no fat, fiber or protein at all in the beverage, then the question really is "where's the açai?"
